Ministry

Philosophy

How we think it should be done

1. The goal of our Ministry is to make disciples.

Our responsibility to every individual, young or old, who comes to ECC is to lead them to a meaningful, purposeful, fruitful relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek to:

proclaim Him (Jesus), admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ (Col 1:28).

Whilst there have been many books written on ministry, the best book on ministry is still the Bible, quite simply because it is the inspired word of God. It is filled with tried and tested models for reaching people and helping them to follow Jesus. Therefore the Bible shapes our practice, informs our message, and guides what we do and to whom we do it with.

2. We believe that discipleship is normally fostered in low-key, long-term, relationships.

Whilst Jesus certainly demonstrated the amazing power of God to thousands of people, He spent most of His earthly ministry investing His time into the lives of 12 individuals.

Jesus discipled them by teaching them the whole counsel of God (Luke 24:44-49), by teaching them to pray to their heavenly Father (Matthew 6:5-15), by setting them an example by which to live (1 Corinthians 11:1) and by equipping them to make more disciples (Luke 10:1-16). In the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20), Jesus leaves this same discipleship strategy to his disciples – make disciples, baptise them, and teach them to obey everything He had commanded.

3) Making disciples makes disciples!

This is the natural consequence of gospel discipleship. As followers’ understanding and appreciation of their relationship with Jesus deepens, His lordship will be seen in every area of their lives. They will live unashamedly for Him (Romans 1:16), they will have an answer for the hope to which they have (1 Peter 3:15), and they will understand the call to make Him known to their friends and networks (Romans 10:17) – being a disciple leads to evangelism, which in turn, God willing, leads to growth.
